About Us

In-Home & In-Clinic Veterinary Care for Your Pets

Welcome to our Tenderheart Veterinary Care, proudly serving the Altoona & Eau Claire area. We specialize in providing in-home and in-clinic veterinary care for cats and dogs that find visits to the clinic stressful. Our mission is to bring high-quality medical services to your pet’s healthcare. Our mobile service  reduces the anxiety often associated with veterinary appointments. As a new practice in the community, we are committed to working as a team with pet owners to ensure the best care for your pets.

Meet the Team

Meet Dr. Michelle Rothaug, DVM, CPEV

I am a 2018 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine. Post-graduation I started in a mixed animal practice where I quickly learned small animal medicine was my forte. Afterward, I moved to the Eau Claire area and joined a small animal clinic. Thereupon I was able to continue to learn and grow as a veterinarian. Here I continued to pursue fear free handling and techniques to improve my patients’ experience in a hospital setting. Exotics also piqued my interest and I delved into the world of avian, reptile and exotic companion mammals.

It did not take long for me to realize that my childhood dream of being a practice owner was still lurking around. This has brought me to this point in my career: starting a mobile veterinary practice where I can bring care to pets in the comfort of their home. My hope is to continue providing fear free and reduced stress exams and treatment while still meeting the medical needs of pets and their owners/families.

Prior to attending veterinary medicine school, I was a certified veterinary technician. My career started in the United States Army in 2001 where I completed their Animal Care Specialist training. This led me to civilian employment as a veterinary assistant. Eventually I obtained my license upon employment at the Large Animal Hospital at UW-Madison’s Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). My years as a veterinary technician were spent in mixed and small animal clinics, feline only, emergency medicine, and academia.

During this time, I continued my military career with the Army National Guard (Kentucky, Alaska, and Wisconsin) in a variety of military occupational specialties including Fire Fighter, Water Purification, and Petroleum Supply. I was able to retire with just over 20 years of service in 2023. Since then, I have enjoyed more time with my husband (Rusty) and daughter (Charlotte). Together we have three dogs and two cats and a large garden to keep us busy in the Spring and Summer.

Heather Mann

CVT, CVMRT

Hi, I’m Heather, a Certified Veterinary Technician with over 15 years of experience caring for animals. I have a special passion for animal rehabilitation and love helping pets recover after injury or surgery so they can get back to living happy, active lives. Supporting animals through the healing process—and helping their families along the way—is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

I believe every pet deserves compassionate, individualized care, and I enjoy working closely with both pets and their owners to make recovery as comfortable and successful as possible.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me traveling, hiking, or spending time with my family—which includes my three cats, two horses, and my favorite hiking partner, Callie, my Mini Aussie.
